Amorphization of Intermetallic Compounds by Energetic Heavy Ion Irradiation

Amorphous alloys are expected to be useful for various applications because they have superior mechanical properties such as strength, hardness and corrosion resistance. So far, the only method production of amorphous metals is quench from liquid state. When materials exposed high-energy ions, lattice structures tend metastable or non-thermally equilibrium, in some cases, lose crystallinity, resulting amorphization. However, alloy types irradiation conditions that cause amorphization by never been well clarified yet. In order study particles one material processes strength control, we studied structural changes accompanying bulk crystalline due conditions. this paper, discuss correlation between change when heavy ion applied several intermetallic compounds.
